Episode 77

Seeing The Positive Side Out Of This Crisis

Welcome to Minute Madness on the Becoming the Big Me Podcast where Your host Djemilah Birnie drops a little dose of epicenes in 5 minutes or less. In today's episode Djemilah talks about the good things that this pandemic gave us. It taught us to be more humane because we only see a lot of good things from everyone since the start of this pandemic. People helping people to uplift each other. It also gave us more time to relax and take things slowly which we haven't done in a long time because we are too busy with all our daily tasks. Let's take a moment to savor this time to just rest your mind and your body.

I always try to look at things from the positive perspective, I always try to see, okay, what is the good that we can take out of this? And there's actually quite a lot of good that I have seen, you know, coming from this. The first thing is

our human humanitarianism. I don't know if that's how you say that, or if that's even a word is that, you know, people are really showing up for each other right now, as a community, I see the community coming together. You know, I see families coming together to help each other with childcare. During this time, I see college students volunteering to go grocery stopping grocery shopping for the elders of our community, I see businesses going above and beyond to serve their clients, schools, providing meals to make sure that people are fed. I just see a lot of good this it can bring out you know, the bad in people, but it can bring out the good and I see a lot of good coming from this we are coming together as a society to help each other and in times of crisis. That's something that is really important and that that community is something that I hope carries through through the end of this pandemic.

The other opportunity that this crisis is giving us is it is a forced shutdown a force. So low down is making us take a step back and truly reevaluate what's important, reevaluate our entire lives, and do some deep digging and some deep soul searching. Many of us are stuck at home by ourselves. We are not you know, out in the world with our activities. And that gives our brains a lot of idle time, which can be uncomfortable for some it can be scary. When we sit idly by, there are things that come to surface that we have shoved away in the deepest, darkest corners shoved away into the junk drawers of our mind, that might be coming to surface right now might be showing its head, given that our brains are not overwhelmed with the constant state of activity in our society. So often, we are so busy, we're just go go go all the time. We don't allow ourselves to have that time to rest and for us to heal and us to self reflect and this time is really kind of forcing us to do those things. It's forcing us to do that inner work. And let me ask you, how has it been? How's it been for you? Has it been uncomfortable? Have you noticed new things come into light? Are you getting a little bit more clarity on what it is that you truly desire?
